Legora Launches 250+ Skills For Legal Agents

Legora has launched Skills, a way to get much more out of the agents that work within their platform. They’ve also added a library of over 250 pre-made skills that you can adapt. The move mirrors the way that some of the big LLM makers such as Anthropic have also rolled out agentic skills for legal work. Other legal AI companies have also done similar things.

The simple version is this: ‘Skills enable lawyers to encode their ways of working so the agent knows how to execute work to their standards’.

Or, look at it this way: ‘A Skill is a set of natural language instructions [i.e. just text that you input], saved as a Markdown file [i.e. it looks like a bunch of sentences in a document], that teaches [i.e. gives orders to] the Agent how to approach a specific legal task.

‘It captures three things: the standards your team holds its work to, the processes it follows, and the preferences that make the work recognizably yours.’

And this can apply to literally dozens of use cases, e.g. review this type of document in this specific way based on these instructions, or, look for X information in Y files, but follow the orders we’ve given you very closely for this kind of search.

And the below table helps to explain how this fits into the bigger picture.

Plus, they are very broad and adaptable, as Legora explained: ‘Along with instructions, a Skill can hold reference materials, templates and past examples, including what the output should not look like. The Agent can invoke a Skill when a task calls for it, or you can tell it which Skill to use. You can read, edit, export and update any Skill as your work changes.’

The final part is the library of 250 or more pre-made skills that you can then adapt.

‘Legora comes with a Skills Library of more than 250 Skills, built by our legal engineers across practice areas and jurisdictions. Whether you work in litigation, real estate, corporate or in-house, there are Skills ready to use as they are – or adapt to how your team works.’

Is this a big deal?

Well, first it makes total sense and it connects closely with Legora’s focus on moving legal AI into a largely agentic stage, i.e. where lawyers trust agents to do longer, more multi-part tasks.

Are skills a big step up from single prompts? Yes. If the agents are able to deliver what you want in this way then it greatly increases your efficiency gains.

Is this unlike what others have done? No. Other companies have also developed agentic skills and also created libraries of such skills. Plus, as is always the case – the underlying technology here is not unique, but rather it’s based on what the LLM providers can offer. I.e. the value that Legora brings here is itself….if that makes sense: its platform, its collection of tools, and connections, and interface and generally its entire ‘context’ that you work within….or, one might say its centrality. The agentic skills part just ties it all together more effectively.
