Newcode, a ‘configurable AI harness’ for law firms has raised $13.5m in its Series A, with Relativity’s investment arm Rel Labs joining the round. See AL Interview with CEO, Maged Helmy, below.
The Norway-based company, which raised around $6.5m in a Seed round in March this year, saw OnDean Forward, Antiportfolio Ventures, and TLTF, also join the Series A, giving it a total of $20m raised so far in 2026. Expansion in the US is one of the key goals that the new cash will support.
Maged Helmy, founder and CEO of Newcode, commented: ‘The AI revolution is ultimately a great thing for law firms. But to transform to AI-native, the legal market needs control and flexibility. Our mission is to help firms build AI capabilities that are truly their own.’
And to that end they explained that they provide for four main support areas:
- ‘Connect. With 700+ MCP connections and a comprehensive API, firms can link to any data source.
- Contextualize. Newcode has built a proprietary agentic retrieval system that contextualizes information across the firm and its documents, continuously becoming more intelligent as the firm acquires and adds new information.
- Create. Users can create unique work product for their customers by building sophisticated workflows across data sources, or by accessing Newcode through a frontier model.
- Control. Firms gain granular permissions, cloud or local deployment options, and the ability to use whatever LLM and interface works for them.’
Meanwhile Andrew Sieja, Relativity Founder and Principal Partner at OnDean Forward, commented: ‘We’re excited to work with Maged and the team at Newcode. The tech gives law firms a path to own their AI stack and helps them accelerate the use of AI across the practice and business of law.’

Legal Innovators New York – Nov 17 and 18 – the landmark legal innovation conference in New York this November: Day One: law firms, Day Two: inhouse.

And now the AL interview with Maged all about the funding and his strategic goals.

What does this mean to you personally?
It validates a belief the team and I have held since day one: that legal teams deserve AI systems built for their world, not third-party vendors or black-box software, and that the market is ready for the kind of firm‑owned AI intelligence layer we’ve been building.
Where do you see Newcode fitting within the legal AI landscape?
Newcode sits in the part of the market that moves the needle – the intelligence layer.
We’re the platform that lets firms build their own capabilities: their own agents, their own workflows, their own knowledge systems, all within their own environment. In a landscape full of tools, Newcode is the configurable AI harness for the legal industry.
How do you see this landscape evolving?
The landscape is entering a new phase. Interfaces will change. AI models will change. But the firm’s need to harness its knowledge will remain.
Firms are moving away from rented intelligence. They are realising that true scale comes from ownership. Ownership of their data, their workflows, their retrieval, their governance, and their intelligence layer. The future of legal AI will not be defined by point solutions. It will be defined by firms that choose to own their capabilities. And Newcode is how they will do it.
What are your views on token costs and helping firms with this?
Token costs are becoming one of the most misunderstood parts of AI adoption. Firms are right to be concerned – usage‑based pricing can spiral quickly when you’re running complex workflows or high‑volume document work. But the answer isn’t to avoid advanced models; it’s to manage them intelligently. Newcode provides full transparency, cost controls, routing logic, and optimisation at the infrastructure layer. We help firms use the right model for the right task, minimise unnecessary calls, and reuse structured knowledge instead of re‑processing it. The result is predictable cost behaviour – and in many cases, significant reductions in spend.
Thanks and congrats!

Two Major Legal Innovators Conferences this November
Come and join us in New York and London this November at Legal Innovators!
Legal Innovators UK – London, Nov 4 and 5

And, then Legal Innovators New York – Nov 17 and 18.

After another fantastic Legal Innovators California, where we had speakers from OpenAI, Y Combinator, Google, Meta, and many more pioneering organisations; and our stellar inaugural event in Paris this June, we are now looking forward to the landmark conferences in London and New York, both in November, and both across two days: Law Firm Day, and Inhouse Day.
