Relativity has announced that it has developed ‘claiR’, a conversational AI system, which taps customers’ data already stored within RelativityOne – and can reason across ‘millions of documents, the metadata, and the connections between them’.
It grounds ‘every answer and resulting associated work product in a complete, secure system of record shaped over decades of legal work’, they added, and also noted: ‘Because the data stays in RelativityOne, it removes the time and increased risk that can come with moving sensitive data between tools.’
Once it is generally available in 2027, claiR is expected to be included in RelativityOne at no additional cost. For now, they’ve been working with A&O Shearman, Foley & Lardner LLP and K&L Gates to test it.
Phil Saunders, CEO of Relativity, commented: ‘This isn’t lawyers learning their way around RelativityOne. It’s a fundamentally new way to get them straight to the answers in their most consequential legal data.
‘Conversational AI is now how people everywhere expect to work, and with claiR, for the first time, the full richness of a matter’s data is directly in lawyers’ hands, rather than something they wait on technical legal data teams to surface.
‘claiR draws on the full power of our industry-leading aiR suite and legal data intelligence platform, and on the record itself for high-stakes legal work that has to stand up in court, before boards and before regulators.’
The company noted that this is a big deal for them – and it certainly seems to be a major step forward, allowing Relativity customers to really tap all of the knowledge hidden away in their growing doc stacks – in most cases built from handling eDiscovery matters.
It’s also interesting to see how this will benefit long-term client relationships for the law firms, as inhouse teams could now ask external advisors using this approach to go back to a range of old matters and dig around for new insights that may be relevant today.
The move follows ‘its planned move into Microsoft Word’ through the acquisition of Gavel, the extending of Model Context Protocol integrations, and investments in emerging legal tech through its Rel Labs investment arm, they noted.
